Data released by Malaga airport shows a 2.6 percent increase in the number of passengers during the month of June 2013, compared to data from last year. The total number of travelers was 1,366,078 during this last month.
Reports from the first six months of the year indicate a small increase of 0.5% in total number of passengers. The Malaga AGP landings and takeoffs added up to 10,387 for the month of June, 0.4% less than last year, which seems to indicate that most flights have more passengers now, which has become a sustained trend during recent years. This trend repeats this year so far, according to Aena, the group that runs most major airports in Spain.
The number of takeoffs and landings for the first six months of 2013 was 46,122, down 4.5% from last year. Most of the 1,362,269 passengers going through the airport flew on 9,936 commercial flights. Of these, 172,482 flew on national flights and 1,189,787 on international flights, showing a 7.4% increase. Most of the travelers went from or to United Kingdom destinations - 501,773.
124,727 passengers traveled from or to Germany, and the rest flew between Spanish cities. Sunday the 30th of June recorded the busiest for Malaga airport. Numbers reached 6,122 passengers during rush hour on that day, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. The total number of landings and takeoffs was 416. The total number of travelers recorded was 56.917.
However the largest number of departures and arrivals took place on Saturday June 1st: during peak time between 9:00 and 10:00 AM, 42 flights landed and took off. More than five and a half million passengers have passed through the Malaga airport between January and June this year. A large number of these travelers take a taxi transfer from Malaga airport to their destinations.
