Malaga airport has experienced an 83% increase in number of German visitors during the month of January, adding up to 29.620, compared to 16.169 during the same month last year. Germany is a “strategic” market for the Costa del Sol and this growth helps the existing passenger air transfer market, as Elias Bendodo, Chairman of Tourism Board, pointed out. He also said that out of the new 25 air routes launched during this winter season, which began last October 2013, 13 connect with Germany and there has been an increase in the number of seats (79.9%) and of flights (77.2%).
To this effect, the tourist board continues its policy of promoting the destination in different source markets. This way, the agency is developing action plans this week to strengthen the destination. Twenty-Two German travel agencies, which regularly work with the tour operator TUI, will visit the Costa del Sol this week. This visit will last five days during which they will transfer between various outstanding hotels, take some local tours, do some shopping and have lunches and dinners at famous landmarks in the province of Malaga. Sounds like a nice job!
The Tourism Board will try to discover the potential of the destination and its characteristics in terms of accessibility, location, hotels and cultural and leisure activities, its gastronomy and domestic tourism supply. They will also emphasize the business opportunities available during the winter season in order to encourage tourism in this season.
