German market will see growth in 2014

The Berlin International Tourism Exchange opens its doors today to show the world the best of 180 different countries that compete for a share in the 51 million trips that Germans made abroad last year. But on the eve of this event positive news for the Andalusian destinations are anticipated. An expected growth of 15% in bookings for summer of 2014 is predicted, as the director of the Spanish Tourist Office in Berlin, Arturo Claver, advanced in the meeting held with the Councillor of Tourism and Trade Board of the Junta, Rafael Rodriguez. Andalusian destinations went ahead of the opening to present the actions related to the golf segment, which are going to be Andalucías big reinforcement plan in Germany.

The director of Malaga Airport, Salvador Merino, confirmed yesterday that airlines are keeping their commitment to the German market, consolidating last summers very strong increase, in which the offering of seats connecting the coast with Germany grew by a very healthy 32%.

During the winter season Malaga Airport has direct (non transfer) connections to fifteen German cities and with seventeen airports there. Seven airlines operate these routes: Easyjet, Ryanair, Lufthansa, Air Berlin, Vueling, Norwegian and Germanwings. During this present winter season, four new routes have been added. They fly to Dortmund, Muenster, Nurenberg and Hannover. Even so, almost half of Germans who choose Costa del Sol come from five cities: Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Niederrhein and Dusseldorf.

Merino pointed out that Germany has become the third largest market by passenger volume, after United Kingdom and Spain and recalled that during this winter, there has been a growth of 75%, closing this last season with an average growth of 35%

For the upcoming summer season, the airlines have scheduled more than 11.5 million seats to  Malaga Airport, 5% more than last year. The summer season, which will start on the last weekend of March 2003, proves the strength of the international market, adding up to 85% of the total anticipated air traffic.  He also announced that flight transfers are growing and their estimated number will be 67.518, 3.7% more than during last years summer season. In the presentation of the summer flight schedule, he emphasised the strong growth of the number of flights between Malaga and Russia, with 60% more seats than last summer. Following in the ranking is Poland, which will offer 50% more seats in direct non transfer flights with the capital of the Costa del Sol.

Merino also pointed out that the Malaga Airport has kept up the positive trend from the beginning of the year, estimating that this period will close with 10% more passengers than the previous year.
