New stores opening in Malaga

Malaga is once again in the sights of the major brands of hotels. After a few years of deep economic depression for the market, now it is feasible to see a change in the trend, since during the last few months there have been numerous grand openings of new stores and businesses belonging to national and international renowned groups. Many of these had no previous stores in the province of Malaga and have planned to transfer their business their for some time now.

Many more companies have announced their arrival in the coming months of 2014, consolidating a trend in the catering and fashion sectors. Samuel Fernström, general manager of &Other Stories, famous Swedish group, was attending the grand opening of their second store in Spain, located in Calle Larios in Malaga city when he said “We are very proud to be opening a store in one of the largest cities in Southern Europe, with a large cultural and artistic heritage. We cannot wait to get to know our future customers, who love fashion and either visit or live in the famous Costa del Sol”.

& Other Stories is the H&M ensign shop, specializing in high-end fashion accessories. In the same street block, H&M will transfer another 490 square meter store in order to house their first COS in the capital city, a sophisticated design store for women, men and children. The Norse textile giant seeks to strengthen their presence in the historical downtown area of Malaga and to earn more market share over their competitor, especially Inditex (Zara).

The Spanish group Inditex is giving the finishing touches to their store, Zara, located in Larios Street. This group already has several stores in the same street, such as Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Berska, Oysho and Stradivarius. To compete in the competitive fashion business, there are also stores from other groups that are drawing much attention. Spanish ElGanso, a store that specializes in urban European fashion and had one store within the La Cañada shopping center and corners in Corte Inglés, has opened another store in Plaza de la Constitución, as part of an ambitious expansion plan in Spain and abroad.

Nearby, in Compañía Street, Dolores Promesas has also opened its doors. It is a national group that is well known for their exclusive collections of clothes and accessories. The group increased their turnover by 10%, reaching 5.3 million euros. The group has twenty-three stores in Spain and they plan to expand in Europe and EEUU.

Beyond fashion shops, restaurant businesses are also a strong force in Malaga. There is fierce competition among known brands. Costa Coffee was the last to open a store. “Malaga will be a key in the expansion plan in Spain, planning to open or transfer 150 stores in the next five years”, said Ramiro Gómez, regional manager of Costa Coffee, founded in 1971 by two Italian brothers, living in London. Their business concept is based on high quality Italian coffee. They own a network of 2.700 coffee shops in thirty different countries. Sandpiper Iberia manages the new coffee shop, company founded in 2007. They operate in the field of food retail and offer their services in more than two thousand hotels and restaurants.
