More seats being sold to AGP

British operators have their sights for the future set on Andalucia and, specifically playing a key role, in Malaga and its international airport. Malaga airport has consolidated its position as the main door to foreign tourism. During the last few years, the community has managed to improve its air connectivity with the main markets, one of the most urgent demands presented by tour operators and the airlines have relied on Malaga for dropping their passengers off, and it will continue being so next year.

An increase of more than 15% in the number of passengers landing in at Malaga airport is forecast for 2015. There have been over 2 million passengers from January to September.

City council said yesterday that there had been meetings with Jet2, Monarch and BA  representatives to sign agreements. These three airlines together are planning to offer more than 1.2 million seats next summer from the UK to Malaga airport.

Jet2 transported more than 200.000 tourists up until September 2014, representing an increase of 10% over last year. The airline has connecting flights with Malaga from seven UK airports and aims to maintain the growth figures with Malaga airport as its main base.

BA also have their sights placed in Andalucía, since they are satisfied with the new routes in place, like the one to Granada. They will start a new route to Sevilla next March while keeping Malaga as their main base in the Andalucía region. BA operates 29 flights from Gatwick, six from London City and two from Heathrow. They have 38 weekly flights from these three airports and they hope to offer more than 300.000 seats during 2015, as told by company representatives during the meeting held with official representatives from Malaga City Council.

Monarch, with 46 weekly flights to Malaga is expected to exceed 485.000 seats next summer and almost 250.000 during this winter, the Town Council reported.
