Nerja is one of the hidden gems of Spain. It hides a quaint old town, once a sleepy fishing village, that has been saved from the concrete development of the 60's and 70's. With a multitude of small coves and several long sandy beaches, clear water and endless days of sun, Nerja is a delight for the whole family.
Nerja is a virtually unknown walkers paradise. The local Sierra de Almijara mountain range is one the most beautiful on the whole of the costa del sol with walks to suit all tastes, from a gentle stroll through the Rio Seco river valley to a climb up the highest mountain in the local area, Cielo. This mountain can be reached from the picnic area of Funte Esparto and is a 4 hour climb to reach the top, where you will be rewarded with stunning views over the coastline from Almunecar to Torrox.
For those who just prefer an easy stroll, there are lots of nice places to see in the town itself and an evening stroll along the Balcon de Europa on a warm summer evening is unbeatable. The smell of jasmine in the air and the atmosphere charged with a relaxed excitement.
There are plenty of restaurants in Nerja to choose from...well over 100 at last count. Some of the better restaurants include El Niño in Calle Cristo, Clabaza in Calle Pintada and for tapas, the Pulguilla just up from the Post Office. On the main beach, you can try Ayos Paella, which is famous in Nerja.
