Chinese tourists at Malaga Airport

Elías Bendodo, president of the Board of Tourism Malaga - Costa del Sol has pointed out the importance of promoting Malaga as a benchmark destination for golf tourism. Costa del Sol from Nerja to Sotogrande has 73 golf clubs, making it the area with the highest density of clubs in continental Europe. Moreover, the spending of the average golf tourist is higher than the spending of other tourism segments: 171 euros per person per day. Earlier this month, representatives of this promotional agency attended the Weco Golf travel Tour in partnership with Turespaña and the Council of Tourism and Commerce of the Junta de Andalucia. The Czech market is very interested in this destination, as is the Russian market, the two highest continental issuers within this tourism segment. Between January and September of this year, 17.628 travellers from the Czech Republic have arrived at Malaga airport, 6.5% more than during the same time frame last year.

Malaga, the capital of the Andalusian province, will launch a promotional campaign in China. Its a market that is experiencing a sizable increase in the city, with 111% more visitors, 4.935 in total; and an increase of 80.5% in the number of tourists stays, --6.265—compared to the first nine months in 2012.

This way, the Tourism Area of the Town Council has prepared an activity program in Shanghai, Hangzhou and Kunming, which includes presentations to media, meetings with airlines, travel agencies and transfer operators and meetings with Chinese officials.

Damian Caneda, councillor of Culture, Tourism and Sports, pointed out during a press conference this last Monday the “spectacular growth” of Chinese tourism, that is part of a “global movement of re-definition of the tourism flows, not a passing fancy or trend”. That is why Malaga “cant lose the opportunity of becoming the main gateway for Chinese tourism in Andalucia”. Malaga can now  transfer this opportunity into reality

Spain currently ranks ninth in the ranking of European destinations preferred by Chinese tourists, a position "well below its potential, but understandable if considering the fact that Spain is not well known in China." However, in 2012  a total of 177,000 Chinese tourists arrived in Spain, 55 percent more than in 2011.

The main destinations in Spain were Cataluña - 58 percent - Madrid - 24 percent - and Andalucia - 7.7 percent - and within the Community of Andalucía, Malaga was the main destination.

Malaga Aiprort Taxi have long offered Chinese tourists the opportunity to travel in style with private transfers to the main locations of Granada, Seville and Cordoba from Malaga airport.
