Elias Bendodo, president of Malaga Tourist Board has said today that data from hotel occupancy and the increase in the number of passengers at the Malaga airport during the long weekend of the national holiday confirms good progress and increase during the slow tourist season in Costa del Sol and a corresponding transfer of confidence to the sector.
Bendodo pointed out in a statement “encouraging data” from a long weekend, which was already expected to show a recovering trend compared to last year`s data.
“During these days, we have seen a rise in occupancy and billing, since the weekend was a long one, having more days than last year`s”, said Bendodo.
Hotels reached an average of between 55 and 57% in the number of expected rooms occupied and might have even been even higher, according to the Hoteliers Association of Costa del Sol.
Meanwhile, rural tourism “has recovered its vitality” as occupancy went up around one point when compared to last year, reaching 76.75, according to data from Viajes Rural Andalus, that reports an increase of 12% in billing.
Bendodo is pleased about the positive figures from Malaga airport, which recorded 723.033 passengers during this past November, representing an increase of 11.9%. Up to date year`s total figures are 12.2 million passengers, 2.3% more than in 2012!
Data from this long weekend via Malaga airport are a “boost” for the slow season and help to climb up another step in the uptrend that the tourism industry in the province of Malaga is showing this year.
Malaga Airport Taxi has also experienced record figures in terms of passengers travelling to locations such as Marbella, Puerto Banus and Nerja.
