Since last week, more than a thousand taxis in the province of Malaga offer a free magazine, so passengers riding this taxi service can get tourist information during their taxi ride.
The quarterly publication allows travellers to learn about tourism offers in the province of Malaga via articles, interviews, specials and illustrations. It is an initiative carried out by the Association of Autonomous Unified Taxis of Malaga. This magazine is available in 1000 taxicabs in the province of Malaga, but mainly the ones that offer transfer services from Malaga airport and train station, María Zambrano. The booklets are placed on the taxis back seat. All the information contained is available in English as well as Spanish.
Frenando González, promoter of the project and editor of the periodical said that their intent is to allow tourists to take a good look at the magazine during their taxi ride and by doing so, they will have a good chance to get to know “the most attractive spots of the Malaga coast.”
González pointed out to Europa Press that each magazines issue, which will be published on a quarterly basis, “will contain information about one town in the province and what that town offers to tourists.” Towns included will be the likes of Marbella, Estepona, Nerja and Benalmadena.
Passengers will also find good info on restaurants along with cultural and entertainment news as well as information on events and news related to the tourist industry. The July through September magazine contains articles regarding the city's August feria, the art exhibits at the Picasso Museum and information about the local amusement parks, among other interesting news.
The magazine is “very positive, offering tourism information directly related to the taxis role” according to local taxi service. Jose Antonio Mate, president of Aumat praised the magazine's effort to keep tourists informed about “places for tourists to really enjoy themselves.”
“The magazine offers fresh, interesting news”, he explained. He also pointed out that passengers “take the magazine, read it and even comment on it to their taxi drivers”. “They show a lot of interest and the magazine has been really well received,” he added. In this regard, Mate indicated that it is important for the taxi business in Malaga (and the airport area) “to bring together the city and the taxi industrys customers, both local and foreign.”
