Malaga Airport goes greener!

Malaga airport has amazingly reduced its energy consumption in the last two years by 18 million kilowatt hours. This amount is equivalent to the annual electricity usage of 1,700 households, according to statistics from the Institute for Diversification and Energy Savings. The savings are also equivalent to the amount of electricity needed for a whole year for a town with a population of about 7,000 people, like Malaga Archidona according to sources from the airport.

Through a battery of energy efficiency measures, Malaga airport has reduced its power bill by more than 1.6 million euros between 2012 and 2013 and emissions have also been reduced through energy savings measure up to 6,000 tons of CO2, similar to the amount issued by 56,600 petrol vehicles en route from Malaga to Madrid!

Measures taken include replacing equipment with more efficient lighting in the terminal buildings and main units, installation of control elements such as presence detectors and timers and operating adjustments to climate production units.
