Provincial taxi strike

Malaga province taxi drivers have been summoned to a rally in the parking lot area of the José María Martín Carpena sports arena in the capital city. The rally will take place between 9 AM and 2 PM. During this strike, 10 percent minimum services are guaranteed in each town.

Olivia Rodríguez, president of the Federation of Independent Taxi Cabs of Tourist Towns of Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Mijas, Nerja, Estepona and Manilva criticised this decree, insofar as it is supposed to “deregulate cabs in Málaga City in detriment of other taxi cab drivers all over Andalusia”.

Rodríguez “absolutely” opposes both the principle of modulated reciprocity as well as the future area of joint services of the Malaga airport. In her view the only solution involves respecting the original decree that regulates public transport services for motor car passengers, which had the consensus of all parts, always defending the general interests of both the customers and the drivers.

She has also said “la Junta has not called us to discuss the conflict, though we have all asked in every possible way: by requesting meetings, sending petitions from representatives of associations that serve more than six million citizens of Andalusia, motions of support from town councils and even, we have gone to the Office of Mobility in person”.

Ms. Rodríguez also regrets the inconvenience that the strike will produce, but she said that it is clear that the Junta de Andalusia only listens to this group when they act. She also stressed that this strike is called “to defend our rights and never to inconvenience the customers, who we must protect and take care of, and for whose rights we are also fighting for”.
